Design & Technology Cooking & Nutrition Sessions

Look we’ve been cooking cauliflower cheese today….   In line with our new Design and Technology curriculum all KS2 children are being given the opportunity to cook a healthy dish in the school kitchen under the supervision of Sheila Garton our School Cook. The aims of the sessions are to:- Understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet Prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes using a range of cooking techniques Understand seasonality and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed. Although the project ties into our Design & Technology curriculum, cooking is also linked to many other subjects ie measures in Maths, instructional writing in English, designing menus in Art and IT etc. This project ties into both our Healthy School Award and ‘Food for Life’ http://www.foodforlife.org.uk.  ...

2K Trip to Nottingham Castle.

2K Trip to Nottingham Castle.

2K visited Nottingham Castle as part of our Nottingham in the Past topic. We went on the bus and walked through Market Square. Luckily we were able to look inside the Council House building and sit on the steps for a photo before walking to the castle. At the castle we met Philip for our special Robin Hood session. Philip was dressed as one of Robin’s men. We learned all about what food Robin would have eaten from Sherwood Forest including eel which would have been trapped by a willow trap in the river. Luckily we managed to release our ‘eel’. Then we took part in a performance of the Golden Arrow story and after that we made masks like the ones used for our drama.   The children (and adults) were very tired when we got back to school, but we all had a fantastic day.
