Our New Sports Ambassadors

Our New Sports Ambassadors

4 children in Year 5 have been selected as Middleton’s Sports Ambassadors. They are full of ideas of how to improve sport at Middleton and they will be helping the staff promote healthy lifestyles at school. We are very proud of them and the hard work they do around the school!
Our Sports ambassadors have been carefully chosen and show all of the necessary qualities:
– Must be approachable and have a good relationship with all children
– A positive role model and a good attitude towards learning and playing sports
– Be a good team member
– Able to engage and inspire others
– Must be organised and be a good timekeeper
Their job role is very important throughout the school and below you will see a list of jobs our Sporting Ambassadors will undertake throughout the school year. They will referee football, basket ball ,table tennis and cricket matches at dinner times and they will also organise various sports competitions. They will also hold a Change 4 Life Club assembly.

Outdoor Learning in Y1

Outdoor Learning in Y1

All Year 1 children spent a day in our outside environment participating in a number of outdoor activities including digging in the allotment, creating leaf art and fire safety (with the bonfire).  Children really enjoyed the hands on approach to their learning (especially eating the tasty hot dogs, fresh from the bonfire). Well done Year 1      ...

Design & Technology Cooking & Nutrition Sessions

Look we’ve been cooking cauliflower cheese today….   In line with our new Design and Technology curriculum all KS2 children are being given the opportunity to cook a healthy dish in the school kitchen under the supervision of Sheila Garton our School Cook. The aims of the sessions are to:- Understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet Prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes using a range of cooking techniques Understand seasonality and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed. Although the project ties into our Design & Technology curriculum, cooking is also linked to many other subjects ie measures in Maths, instructional writing in English, designing menus in Art and IT etc. This project ties into both our Healthy School Award and ‘Food for Life’ http://www.foodforlife.org.uk.  ...

Gardening club.

Gardening club.

At Middleton we are very lucky with our extensive grounds which include Lucy’s Orchard which has fruit trees and raised beds. Each year some classes use the area to grow food to eat in school and we have a Gardening Club. Helen Clough Jones is a parent volunteer who has spent time working with various children in the school to set up the garden beds. Helen has worked with groups of children during the last two academic years and each year has grown more and more produce. These photos show some of the Gardening Club children and the produce which is growing in the raised beds at the moment.   Next year Gardening Club will be offered to Year 3 children again. We are very grateful to Helen for working with Gardening Club all year round. Thank...
