2K Trip to Nottingham Castle.

2K visited Nottingham Castle as part of our Nottingham in the Past topic. We went on the bus and walked through Market Square. Luckily we were able to look inside the Council House building and sit on the steps for a photo before walking to the castle. At the castle we met Philip for our special Robin Hood session. Philip was dressed as one of Robin’s men. We learned all about what food Robin would have eaten from Sherwood Forest including eel which would have been trapped by a willow trap in the river. Luckily we managed to release our ‘eel’. Then we took part in a performance of the Golden Arrow story and after that we made masks like the ones used for our drama.   The children (and adults) were very tired when we got back to school, but we all had a fantastic day. Our garden – eating our home grown produce.

We are lucky at Middleton to have extensive grounds which include an area called Lucy’s Orchard. We are developing raised beds in Lucy’s Orchard which are used by Gardening Club and classes to support the science work on growing plants and eating home grown produce. 2KP harvested strawberries and rocket which we added to our picnic on our Fantastic Mr Fox day.       All children tried a small piece of a rocket leaf.
