Special Educational Needs & Disability

Middleton is an inclusive school, where we seek to provide a welcoming and safe environment in which every child is valued, cared for and supported. Inclusion to us is about valuing all children equally, and reducing any barriers to learning and participation.

Our provision for children who have any type of Special Educational Need or Disability remains the responsibility of the class teacher, liaising with the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to ensure that the right support is in place. We believe that our partnership with parents and carers is crucial in making sure that there is a consistent approach and shared understanding of how to best meet every child's needs.

Our SENCOs are:

  • Mrs Kayleigh Skirton
  • Mrs Jessica Edwards

They can be contacted via the School Office, or by email to:

senco@middleton.nottingham.sch.uk

A member of our Governing Body has a link role to SEND and meets at least termly with the SENCos in school.  This is currently Mrs Sarah West Valstar.

If we feel that a child may have additional needs of any type, we will contact parents/carers at an early stage to discuss this. Equally, if you have any concerns about your child's development, then please don't hesitate to raise this with us (initially through your child's class teacher, who will then involve the SENCO if appropriate).  It may be that we request advice or support from other professional agencies too, such as Educational Psychology or Speech Therapy. When this is the case, parental consent is always sought beforehand.
